After the functionality shuts off, users will be unable to transfer funds directly via the 3DS or Wii U and will need to do it via a Switch instead.

This is the newest step in Nintendo’s plan to eliminate all 3DS as well as Wii U eShops on March 27, 2023. At that point, users will not be able to purchase digital games in any way regardless of their current balances.

If they need to top-up the 3DS or Wii U balance after today the deadline, they’ll be allowed to connect the Nintendo Network ID wallet (used on Nintendo’s Wii U and 3DS) to your Nintendo Account wallet (used on Switch) Switch) to make an account that is shared.

It means that gamers are able to top up their balances via the Switch and Then use that share to purchase Wii U and 3DS games up to March 27, next year.

But, once that date is reached the balance remaining can only be used for The Switch eShop.

This year, Nintendo stated that although there will be no payments (including downloads of demos for free and other content) will be available after the 27th of March this year, its service will not be completely shut down.

“Even after March 27, 2023, and for the foreseeable future, it will still be possible to redownload games and DLC, receive software updates, and enjoy online play on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems,” the company said.

According to VGC Research Up to 1000 games exclusively digital are likely to disappear after 3DS or Wii U eShop transactions end on March 27.
