Warning: This article contains spoilers about Ms. Marvel Episode 2.Ms. Marvel’s episode 2 teased that Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), powers might actually be more complex than we initially thought. The MCU’s opening episode featured the New Jersey teenager gaining her powers when she borrowed a banglefrom her grandmother in Pakistan. She was able to extend her legs and shoot energy fields. In episode 2, however, it is suggested that Khan’s power comes from within herself, and not from the bangle. Bruno Carrelli, Khan’s friend and tech genius (Matt Lintz), discovers this while trying to help Khan accept her extraordinary abilities. He scans her as she wears the bracelets and explains that it doesn’t seem like her power comes from the bangle. It comes from within you. It’s like unlocking a superhuman part within you. This revelation is very similar to Khan’s ability to unlock her latent powers. This happens, however, and unlike the series, when Black Bolt of Inhumans releases Terrigen Mist to Earth’s atmosphere, waking up her Inhuman DNA. Although there isn’t much else that links Khan’s TV show to Inhumans, Bruno’s comment may suggest it. After Black Bolt’s appearance in Doctor Strange, Inhumans could be back in the MCU. It remains to be seen how this will affect the Inhumans TV series which featured an alternate version of Black Bolt or the Agents of Shield series which included several Inhumans. One viewer commented on the episode on Reddit : “The powers aren’t coming from the bracelet, it’s coming from within you,” confirming that she is inhuman. Another said that it was fair to leave the door open. It is problematic to make her explicitly Inhuman at the beginning, as the MCU Inhumans only exist in the miniseries and [Agents of Shield], which may or not be in continuity. If they know how to do Inhumans correctly, they will be able to say Kamala is one later. OBI-WAN KENOBI FINALLY CLEARS UP ITS BIG CANON DEBATE A third thought it was a clever idea. Represent her comics heritage by updating her powers to use an item that reacts with Inhuman DNA. Another thought was: “Maybe it’s The Amazing Spider-Man where you can only use these powers if your DNA is specific?” Kamala’s grandmother had the bangles, so this might make sense.
